Sleep: The Overlooked Ingredient in Regenerative Healing

When you choose PRP, bone marrow concentrate, or another orthobiologic treatment, you're relying on your body's own ability to repair itself. The injection is only the starting signal. How well your body answers it depends a lot on what happens over the next several weeks, especially at night.

Deep sleep is when repair ramps up. Most of the body's daily growth hormone is released during slow-wave sleep. Growth hormone supports collagen production and tissue remodeling, which are the same processes we're trying to stimulate in a tendon, ligament, or joint.

Sleep keeps inflammation in balance. Regenerative treatments work through a controlled, short-lived inflammatory response. Chronic sleep loss pushes the body toward persistent, low-grade inflammation, with higher levels of markers like IL-6 and CRP. That isn't the environment healing tissue needs.

Sleep lowers stress hormones. Poor sleep raises cortisol, which can slow tissue repair and weaken immune function.

Sleep changes how you feel pain. Even one or two short nights can lower your pain threshold, which makes recovery feel harder and rehab less productive.

To support your results:

  • Aim for 7–9 hours a night on a consistent schedule.
  • Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.
  • Limit screens, alcohol, and caffeine late in the day.
  • Let us know if pain is keeping you up at night.

Your treatment starts the healing process, and good sleep helps it along.
